5. At the UK cinema the film made £2.26 million in its opening week, putting it on a par with Bennett’s former success The History Boys (2006) and making almost triple that of its contemporary release Steve Jobs.
4. With the exception of the late Richard Griffiths, the entire principal cast of Alan Bennett’s other successfully adapted-to-film stage play The History Boys make an appearance.
3. Based on a true story, the film was shot on location at the actual driveway where Miss Shepherd lived in her van between 1974 and 1989.
