INSIDE OUT (2015)
Text Version:
5. Film-makers consulted with neuroscientists when developing the story. While the ‘central command’ part of the brain may be a little old-fashioned for some, other aspects of the film ring very true. For instance, the film accurately suggests that memories are an integral part of our sense of self and that while some are fundamental, all are changeable.
4. Originally the film intended to feature 27 emotions, with 4 other characters – Surprise, Trust, Logic and Pride – actually making it as far as a script. Eventually they were dropped as they would have overcrowded the film and many of their reactions were similar to the four main emotions who made it to the final draft anyway.
3. The title makes little sense in languages other than English, so different countries have had to come up with various names for the film. In Spanish speaking countries it is known as ‘Intensa Mente’ which translates as ‘Intense Mind’ or ‘Furiously’, while in Brazil and Portugal the film is called ‘Divertida Mente’, which translates as ‘Mind Fun’.
2. Each of the emotion characters’ design was based on specific shapes. Joy was modelled on a star, Sadness a teardrop, Fear a raw nerve, Anger a firebrick and Disgust was based on broccoli.
1. The wailing of baby Riley as she refuses her broccoli is in fact a re-used recording of ‘Boo’ from the Pixar film Monsters, Inc (2001).
