5. FLUSHED
Sound designer Ann Schibelli admitted in an interview that the sound of the Enterprise bridge door opening is actually that of a Russian train toilet being flushed.
4. MARVELOUS
This is the feature-film debut of ‘Home and Away’ TV soap actor Chris Hemsworth, who plays Jim Kirk’s ill-fated father. Of course Hemsworth would later go on to become famous for his part as Thor in the Marvel movies.
3. FAREWELL
Majel Barrett, wife of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry provided the voice of the computer, as she has done on various other incarnations of Trek. She passed away only 2 weeks after the recording session.

Film-makers had to digitally recreate Leonard Nimoy’s lips for a scene in which a campfire was reflecting off them.
